This is a seldom seen little booklet by Dartington Glass from 1971. I have never seen this come up for sale on Ebay before. This one doesn't even appear in the book "Frank Thrower and Dartington Glass" book by Eve Thrower and Mark Hill. It is a lovely period piece with lovely b&w photos by, I think, Mike Newton, the company photographer. It is illustrated with shots of the factory, workers and glass beng made. It tells the story of Dartington Hall , the charity set up to assist areas of North Devon in need of regeneration, and without whom Dartington Glass would not exist. The history ( a short history at the time!) of Dartington Glass from 1967 is included and explanation of glass-blowing.

Dartington Glass was started in June 1967 when the Dartington Hall Trust, a Devon based charitable organisation that developed local businesses to maintain the rural life in the area, were looking for a new venture. After 5 years of discussions and negotiations the factory had started with Frank Thrower as Sales Director and designer. Frank was to be the main designer for the next 20 years and produced over 500 designs. Sadly, Frank died in 1987 after a long illness. He is now regarded as one of the top glass designers of the 20th Century having produced many iconic designs. Compared to other companies Dartington has not quite reached the status of other companies such as Whitefriars in so much as monetary value of its glass. Certainly though the designs hold their heads high in the company of others.

The booklet is approximately 6" x 8" in size. It contains 10 pages and is in very good condition with only minor wear.
