DARTINGTON GLASS 1970 Catalogue - Very Rare!!!

This is a seldom seen catalogue by Dartington Glass from 1970. I have never seen a Dartington catalogue come up for sale on Ebay before. This one doesn't even appear in the book "Frank Thrower and Dartington Glass" book by Eve Thrower and Mark Hill. It is a fantastic book with lovely photos by Mike Newton, the company photographer, and each piece accompanied with witty, sometimes risqué descriptions riddled with puns. This catalogue marked a dramatic departure in style and quality compared to previous ones which were cheaply made affairs. In this catalogue several of Frank Thrower's best designs appear such as the FT1 Tankard, FT15 Ships Decanter, Nipple vase etc.

Dartington Glass was started in June 1967 when the Dartington Hall Trust, a Devon based charitable organisation that developed local businesses to maintain the rural life in the area, were looking for a new venture. After 5 years of discussions and negotiations the factory had started with Frank Thrower as Sales Director and designer. Frank was to be the main designer for the next 20 years and produced over 500 designs. Sadly, Frank died in 1987 after a long illness. He is now regarded as one of the top glass designers of the 20th Century having produced many iconic designs. Compared to other companies Dartington has not quite reached the status of other companies such as Whitefriars in so much as monetary value of its glass. Certainly though the designs hold their heads high in the company of others.

The catalogue is approximately 9" x 9" in size. It contains 76 pages and is in very good condition with only minor wear.
